Advanced Capping

Standard Capping functionality is based on the client-side Cookies, and that might be unreliable in some cases, or even exploited by third party causing fraudulent actions.

Therefore, as an advanced addition to the Cookie-based Capping, Epom Ad Server offers server-side tracking based on the IP addresses.

Note!

Advanced Capping requires additional server-side configuration. Please contact your Epom Manager to request this feature for your network.

Once Advanced Capping is activated, enable the corresponding settings for those roles who should be able to access that functionality in User Roles & Permissions section of Network Supervisor account:

  • Capping IP Subject
  • Capping Last External Source IP Subject

The Capping window on the Advertiser, Campaign, and Banner cards will now include additional option to select the Capping Subject:

  • User: Epom Ad Server will be counting Impressions, Clicks, or Actions based on Cookies.
  • IP: Epom Ad Server will be collecting users IP addresses and provide the Capping based off of that criteria.
  • L.E.S. IP (Last External Source IP): identifies the last reliable public IP address in the chain of connections to the user. The capping counter is scored towards that IP address.

To provide the maximum efficiency, we recommend to use a combination of these options. In this way, when either of the Capping values is exceeded, the ad serving for the Advertiser, Campaign, or Banner in question will be stopped. In most cases, the IP and User capping combination shows reliable results, while the External Source IP should be used with precaution only in certain cases.
